Sugar prices continue to surge, hitting record high across Pakistan

Traders and wholesalers come under focus as prices continue to climb without clear justification.

Sugar prices in Pakistan have surged to a record high, reaching Rs210 per kilogram, marking one of the steepest increases in recent months.

Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reports that the nationwide average sugar price was Rs 188.69 per kg, with only a minor decrease of 12 Paisa last week.

According to the report, after taking all the assessments of the market, in Sargodha sugar price will increase by Rs23.

Also, in Karachi and Hyderabad during the week, the sugar price hike to Rs 5, meanwhile, both Karachi and Sargodha sugar were recorded at Rs 200 per kg.

Further in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Sugar prices were also recorded at 200 per kg. In Hyderabad, Sugar price ranges from 190 to 195 per kg.

According to the Bureau of Statistics, last year the average price of sugar in the country was Rs 132.47 per kilogram, after which a significant annual increase in prices has been observed.
